Elche is not one place, and its doors are not one kind of door
The old town around the basilica is mostly pedestrian, so the van stops at the edge and the tools come the rest of the way on foot. Carrús was built fast, twice, and a lot of its cylinders have simply done their years. Altabix went up in the last property boom, which means multipoint doors that need realigning rather than replacing. Out on the coast at Arenales del Sol — a town of barely more than a square kilometre whose registered population has quadrupled since the mid-1990s — the problem is different again: apartments shut up for months at a time, with sand off the dunes finding its way into anything left standing still.
None of that is on a price list. It is just what the job looks like here, and it is the reason a locksmith who works this municipality every day will quote you more accurately than one who drives down from somewhere else.

The ones we get asked most
Do you actually speak English, or just answer the phone in it?
English and Spanish, both properly. You can describe the problem, hear what it will cost and ask why in English, and we can deal with your neighbour, your community administrator or the Guardia Civil in Spanish on the same visit. For a lot of our customers that second half is the part that matters.
Do you cut keys or make spare ones?
No. We do not cut, copy, duplicate, supply or program keys of any kind — not house keys, not car keys, not fobs or remotes, and we do not touch ignition barrels. We open locks, change them and repair them. For a duplicate, a key-cutting shop is who you want, and there are several in the centre of Elche.
What do you need to see before you will open a door?
Something that shows you are entitled to be inside: a DNI or NIE with that address, a rental contract, the escritura, or a recent utility bill in your name. It is a legal requirement in Spain and it protects both of us. If everything you own is on the other side of the door, say so when you ring and we will work out how to verify it — it happens constantly.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the lock, on whether the door is deadlocked or just latched, and on the hour. You get an indicative range on the phone and a fixed price once we have seen the door. Nothing starts until you have said yes to that price. If a job turns out to need something different, we stop and tell you before carrying on.
Do you come out to the villages and the coast, or just the city?
Both. The Camp d'Elx villages, the coastal strip from El Altet down to La Marina, Santa Pola with Gran Alacant, and Crevillente. Out in the partidas, where properties often have no usable street number, send a dropped map pin on WhatsApp — it gets us there far faster than an address.
Is everything available at three in the morning?
The emergency side is: lockouts, snapped keys, a door that has been forced. Planned work is not, and we would rather say so than pretend. Changing a cylinder, fitting a security upgrade or sorting a shutter is booked for normal hours, when the right parts are on the van and you are not paying a night rate for something that could wait until Tuesday.
